BOXED MEAL PROGRAM

Custom Produced Meals Ideal for Prisons and Other Correctional Facilities!
Nearly 25 Million Units Sold
The Boxed Meal Program currently consists of lunches and breakfasts. Many different items can be assembled into a meal depending on budget and dietary guidelines. Meals can be made for a facility's specific menu plan. The cost per lunch is driven not only by the components but also by the volume ordered.
Smaller facilities can take advantage of the program if they are near another facility and can use the same menu plan. Then production of the meals can be done in concert and provide the smaller facility with the same kind of savings.
This program was designed in cooperation with the California State Prison system, in an effort to lessen internal security problems and costs associated with inmate feeding. Our program has many features which can be beneficial to a variety of facilities.
The current Boxed Meal Program has been patterned after the existing specifications used in the adult populated correctional facilities. The box lunch consists of 4 pieces of bread or a roll, sandwich meat or peanut butter/jelly, a cheese product, condiments, cookies, a snack, fruit and a drink base. These items are packed in a recyclable cardboard box sealed in clear plastic wrap to allow inspection of the meals before and after distribution to the inmates.
After the bid is awarded, each facility tells Harvest Farms how many boxed meals they will need each day/week. The boxed meals are then delivered to the facilities 2-3 days per week (the meals have a refrigerated shelf life of more than 10 days). There is a great deal of variety provided in the meals to make them more appealing to the inmates. Additionally, Harvest Farms is able to change or eliminate items to suit the preferences of each facility.
The first facility to successfully implement the Boxed Meal Program was the California Rehabilitation Center in Norco. Michael Thompson and Socorro Martinez worked closely with the development of the Boxed Meal Program to ensure that the meal specifications met the needs of the correctional facilities. In the ongoing development of the Boxed Meal Program we continuously consider quality, variety, cost, and security for our customers. The teamwork and desire our employees have to deliver quality products on time and during emergencies has been the reason for our success.
The Boxed Meal Program has been in place for over four years. Currently, the correctional facilities that are participating in the Boxed Meal Program are Central California Women's Facility in Chowchilla, California State Prison - Los Angeles County in Lancaster, California Rehabilitation Center in Norco, Pleasant Valley State Prison in Coalinga, California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi, and Wasco State Prison in Wasco. In addition, the program was recently implemented at the R. A. McGee Correctional Training Center in Galt and Harvest Farms is now delivering boxed lunch meals to that facility for consumption by the Academy attendees. Since the implementation of the Program, Harvest Farms has delivered nearly 25 million boxed lunches.
The Boxed Meal Program has been heartily received and has proven to provide the facilities savings in product waste, labor, administrative time, storage, and recycling, along with improved security, health safety, and reduced inmate conflict.
We would appreciate the opportunity to show you and/or your food manager and head of security some samples and to discuss the program.
